The Traffic unit was established to reduce accidents, property damage, and loss of life through education and enforcement. Lead by Sergeant Jeff Bottoms, the unit works closely with the City Traffic Engineer, utilizing best practices and data driven decisions to achieve the most efficient flow of traffic at the safest speeds throughout the city.

The team is comprised of a sergeant and two motor officers, who investigate traffic collisions, enforce traffic violations and assist patrol staff with traffic control efforts.

The unit encourages awareness by coordinating child safety seat instruction, providing DUI literature, and coordinating the Safe Routes to School Plan. Additionally, they execute DUI/Driver License checkpoints and conduct special enforcement details focused on pedestrian safety.
