Engaging with the youth in our community is a priority of the Indio Police Department. Through youth outreach programs, police and young people are working, learning, and having fun together. This helps foster positive relationships and open lines of communication.
Police Cadets
Cadets are given the opportunity to learn about the law enforcement profession by performing various tasks in the police department and in the field. The program provides our youth with the skills and responsibilities needed to become productive and successful members of our community.
Cops vs. Kids
The Indio Police Department hosts series of “Cops Vs. Kids” sporting events throughout the year. These community games provide an opportunity to open lines of communication between police officers and city youth.
School Resource Program
Indio Police School Resource Officer (SRO) program was implemented in the spring of 1997 as part of the Indio Police Department's focus on better serving the city through Community Oriented Policing. Specially trained officers have been assigned to Indio’s three high schools: Indio High School, Shadow Hills High School, and Amistad High School. Officers also have collateral duties that take them to serve Indio’s four middle schools, twelve elementary schools and two private schools.
The City of Indio is served by the public school districts of Desert Sands Unified School District and Coachella Valley Unified School District.

Parent Project
The Indio Parent Project Program is a 10 week parent training program designed specifically for parents of strong-willed or out-of-control adolescent children. The curriculum teaches concrete identification, prevention, and intervention strategies for the most destructive of adolescent behaviors (poor attendance and performance, alcohol and other drug use, gangs, runaways, and violent teens).
