The Records Bureau serves a vital function for the Indio Police Department, as it is responsible for the maintenance and release of the Department’s police records (e.g., crime reports, traffic collision reports, recovered vehicle entries, missing persons, court arrest packets, and traffic citations). Records Bureau personnel are responsible for the sorting, filing, copying, and distribution of crime, incident, arrest, and accident reports (“Traffic Collision Reports”) to the general public, insurance companies, and various governmental agencies, such as the Department of Justice (DOJ), California Highway Patrol, District Attorney, and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

The Bureau’s day-to-day operations also include the preparation of misdemeanor and felony court packets for the District Attorney's Office, including crime reports, amendment information, and supporting documents. Additionally, the Records Bureau personnel handle various lobby duties, such as the release of stored/impounded/recovered vehicles, and the scheduling of appointments for registrants.
